What’s wrong with dairy:

  • Baby cows are stolen from their mothers just hours after being born.
  • Mother cows are constantly impregnated in order to produce milk, which is meant to feed their babies.
  • Male calves spend their entire 4-month lifespan in a small crate, often too small for them to even turn around in, in order to be turned into veal.
  • Every bit of dairy includes a legal amount of blood and pus
  • Cows are both genetically modified and fed hormones in order to increase milk production
  • Similarly, they are also fed large amounts of antibiotics, which are creating antibiotic resistant “super bugs.”
  • Milk causes osteoporosis and bone fractures and has been linked to an increased risk of prostate cancer.
  • Milk contains saturated fat, cholesterol and has been linked to weight gain.
  • Cows milk is meant for baby cows who are meant to quadruple their body weight in only 1 year.

Letter to Pizza Hut President

Dear Artie Starrs,

YUM! Brands is no stranger to vegans inquiring about plant-based options at their restaurants. Taco Bell has many vegan options and gets great buzz for being a favorite of people who choose to lead a cruelty-free lifestyle. There is even a vegetarian burger option at KFC locations in Canada. That doesn’t go unnoticed!

Pizza Hut already has some great plant-based options, including wedges, cinnamon sticks (with icing!), and vegan pizza dough, but we are asking you to take it one step further and offer a dairy-free cheese option on your pizzas. If you can deliver a pizza to space, surely you can deliver a pizza to vegans.

The number of vegans is constantly growing and Pizza Hut has an opportunity to be at the forefront of vegan fast-food options. Offering a dairy-free cheese is ideal, not only for people who don’t eat animal products for ethical reasons but for those who may have food allergies as well. In fact, approximately 65 percent of the human population is lactose-intolerant. That is a lot of potential customers!

Many people won’t eat animal-based foods because of the inherent cruelty on factory farms, the devastating impact animal agriculture has on the environment, and for health reasons. People demand dairy-free cheese for many reasons, including widespread availability, affordability, how well it melts, and especially because it tastes delicious!

FARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement) is one of the oldest farmed animal advocacy organizations in the United States and we believe in the inherent worth of animals, preventing animal cruelty, protecting the environment, and safeguarding public health. We believe, as do our over one million followers, that a dairy-free cheese in major pizza chains will be inevitable in the coming years. FARM’s campaigns and programs reach hundreds of thousands of young people every year, and according to our surveys, more than half of them seek out non-dairy cheese pizza!

We urge you to consider our request to offer a dairy-free cheese option at Pizza Hut and “Make It Great!” Thank you for your time and for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Farm Animal Rights Movement
